At the beginning of the study we have subjects give some information about themselves, including their initials (which we use a fill-in-the blank item for). A little later we use powerpoint to manipulate our main independent variable (status). My problem is that I need to allow subjects to use the keyboard to give their initials (which is the main way they are identified), but need to disable the keyboard during the powerpoint show because of the timings. The "browse from kiosk" option won't work for us because we need the pps to run only once. Any suggestions?
Unfortunately, MediaLab has about zero capability to affect a PowerPoint show once it's running. Consequently, you would need to find this solution through people who know PowerPoint better than I. If the option doesn't exist within the PowerPoint Preferences, you might look online for PP macros to intercept the key presses and nullify them. I'm surprised there is no way out of Kiosk mode. Just did an internet search and turned up that you can exit Kiosk mode by pressing Escape. Have you tried that? If so, maybe you could create a final screen that says "Press Escape to Continue"?
