Trouble with uninstalling before reinstalling

I have uninstalled the older version (repeatedly) and keep getting the same message when attemting to install the 2006 version .... words to the effect of "uninstall previous version". I have also destroyed the folder and re-booted the machine but always get the same error message.
Does it continue to give the same message, or is it a new message?
"Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel"
Try this link from Microsoft. It's a utility that will remove any persistent program that doesn't feel like leaving the installation database. I just tried it on my machine and was able to remove some old programs from my Add/Remove Programs list that insisted on hanging around. I've never had a problem with MediaLab or DirectRT in this manner, but it may be a fix for you. If so, it's a very quick and easy solution. Let me know if it helps.

Yes, the Microsoft software removal package seemed to do the trick - thanks. I now no longer get the error message and am getting a prompt asking me to send you the code generated by my PC installation.

I recently did a little searching for a user and found this freeware program called Revo Uninstaller (see link below) which can be effective in removing programs when the install package is broken or stubborn or for whatever reason, you just can't uninstall something:
