participants' responses displayed instantly on same screen as an image (case 14369)
Hello,
I have a serial reaction time task with an implicit recall part where each trial displays four white boxes on screen. The participant's job is to recall the specific sequence (displayed earlier) and to press one of four keys corresponding to the four boxes on screen. What I need is a sort of instant feedback so that the participant sees their response on screen - specifically, I'd like an * to appear in one of the four boxes based on the key press made. Jumping procedure leaves a delay between the trial and feedback, and the 'feedback' option re-produces the key press itself on screen. Is there any way to get the specific image feedback without any delay?
Thanks for your help ahead of time -
Nick
Nick,
If you upload a copy of your input file(s) and your styles.drt file, I'd be happy to look at them and see if I can find something that works for your request.
Sure, see attached. Thanks, Jason. 16451646
Oh, and here's the stim image as well ...
Can you also post the A through D stim as well so I can test the entire file?
Hi Jason,
Just following up on our previous discussion - did you need any other info/attachments from me? I hope I explained things clearly.
Thanks again,
Nick
Nick,
Try using a smaller number in the Trial Interval box of your OBS_Learning.drt file. I used a value of 20 and the asterisk feedback appeared right after I pressed one of the appropriate keys. Play around with different numbers and see if one of them give you the desired effect.
Great, thanks - that works.
There is one more issue with the task. The jumping commands work only once for each jump stim specification, but once they're repeated in the trials they no longer work (i.e., the * appears in each box only once I've toyed around with different things to see why this might be the case, but I keep getting the same thing.
Thanks again
What happens if you remove the minus signs in front of each trial number in the time cell?
I tried that as well - no change. I thought maybe it was because of the 4 options, but when I reduced it to 2 (just to see) the same thing happens...
I tied running the file on my computer and got it to work just fine, the appropriate picture A, B, C, or D appeared when I pressed the designated key for each trial of the input file. Do you have a copy of the short and log output files from one of the times you ran the file and got this error? If so, please upload it.
Also, did you see any error messages appear during or after you ran the input file? Can you also upload a copy of the TrackPerfomance.txt file in your DirectRT program folder?
hmm weird. I keep getting the same thing happen as before. I've uploaded the short and log data files for a test run. I don't get an error message at any point, and I actually don't get a TrackPerformance.txt file afterward. Shouldn't this automatically file itself somewhere in my experiment folder? Maybe that has something to do with it?
Thanks for you help -
Nick
The TrackPeformance.txt file is not in the folder named DirectRT, most likely on the main drive (C:) on your computer? Can you do a search for it to see if it's anywhere on your computer?
Hi Jason,
I played around with some of the style file settings and it finally worked when I changed the default settings from 0 to 1. I think all else if fine and running as it should.
Thanks again for you assistance -
Nick
Ah, that makes sense! Glad to see that you found the solution. Please let me know if anything else comes up.
