Upgrade from DirectRT 2010 to DirectRT 2012 input files no longer run(case 5390)
Our school just updated to MediaLab/DirectRT 2012 and some of our
files are no longer working on the newer version. When we tried to
open it today, we got an error message that says "The input file has
at least one row without a terminator (*) in the last cell....". When we tried adding stars in the last column, it gave us an error code regarding the style code being wrong, which it is not (They are all style code 1). Can someone look at our input file and tell us what the problem is? They all worked fine on the older version. Thank you!
Hi jholzinger!
I took a look at your files and got them to run on my copy of DirectRT v2012. The two basic problems were that you did not have terminators in all of the rows and that the use of quotes in the text of some of your instructions and stimuli confused the program. So that you can see what changes I made, I’ve listed the steps that I followed to get each of the files that you uploaded to run. I’ve also attached the final versions of each of your files so that you can compare them to your own.
Good luck with your study!
Debugging process for jaynebaseline file:
- Entered terminators in column O rows where they were missing.
- Removed terminators in column L if there was a terminator in column I. You had two terminators in many of your rows.
- See message "Error: Row 14 missing terminator."
- Put in terminator in Row 14.
- See message "Error: Row 14 missing value in Time column."
- Referred to thread <a href="http://www.empirisoft.com/support/showthread.php?t=99" rel="nofollow">http://www.empirisoft.com/support/showthread.php?t=99</a>. Removed quotes from around the word Enter in cell 14I.
- File successfully ran.
- Corrected spacing and removed “wrap text” from cell 2L to correct formatting error of the instructions.
Debugging process for marybaseline file:
- Placed terminator at the end of row 1.
- Referred to thread <a href="http://www.empirisoft.com/support/showthread.php?t=99" rel="nofollow">http://www.empirisoft.com/support/showthread.php?t=99</a>. Removed quotes from cells 52F, 79F.
- File successfully ran.

Thank you so much!! We now have both our MediaLab and DirectRT files working independently, but DirectRT will no longer run embedded within MediaLab. Both versions are 2012 and we're using Windows Vista. When the DirectRT part comes up in MediaLab it just goes to a blank screen and freezes up. Any ideas as to why this would be happening? Could it be a licensing issue?
Hmm. The snag with MediaLab launching DirectRT was a known issue with DirectRT (not with MediaLab) in the later releases of DirectRT v2010 and should be fixed in DirectRT v2012. Can you double check that the version you are running is recent? i.e., (2012.4.x or later). If it is, can you double check that there is no second installation of DirectRT on the machine? You can do that by searching the hard drive for "executedrt.exe" which is the main executable. It's that file that should be version 2012.4 or later. See also the following related link:

Hope that helps
