When do voice RTs begin recording?

    [edited from support email]

I have set up an experiment using the voice key as my RT, and I also have it set to record the responses (which is awesome!), but I am wondering when DirectRT begins recording the voice? Is it at the start of each trial that requires the voice response? The reason I am asking is because I am curious if I could extract the RT from the .wav file of the voice? If you need me to clarify, let me know :) Thanks!

The recording of the response as a sound file begins at the onset of the stimulus, just like a regular RT. So, yes, you could extract the RT from the amplitude of the audio in the wave file (using a freeware audio editor such as Audacity). In fact that's more or less how DirectRT does it--it applies the sensitivity you've set in the audio setup as a criterion to determine how much of a change in amplitude should be detected before the RT is triggered.
