placing the time limit on rt:text

placing the time limit on rt:text

Is there any way to limit the response time with an open-ended item? For instance, I would like to have participants free-recall words that were presented to them earlier using rt:text, and I would like to limit the free recall to 5 minutes.

    Check this out:

Note the post toward the bottom though about not being able to interrupt a trial.

    Hi Jarvis,
I read the thread that you linked and I'm a little confused.
It seems like there is no way to interrupt a trial using the meta command, but we can if we use min-max?

I have attached a basic version of the task I want to program.
Basically participants are asked to list as many words as they can starting with the letter "f" in one minute. So it's rt:text and I tried changing the style to 0-2000 with both one and two exclamation marks. Neither work however.

I would really appreciate any advice or suggestions that you may have regarding this matter.

    Thanks!! :)
    Sook

I see the problem. In going over the code for open-ended answers, it doesn't seem like you can interrupt them, the way you can with regular keypress responses. I believe it's because DirectRT turns control over to Windows during open-ended text input and doesn't have any way to intervene until the text box closes and control is then returned to DirectRT. I know MediaLab has a way to do this if you have access to it.

I see from this exchange that it is not possible to have DirectRT automatically advance after the max time limit has expired when using rt:text .

Is it possible to have the program clear an image from the screen after the time limit has expired, while collecting rt:text? I have not been able to get rt:text,clear15000 to work. Is it supposed to work with the open ended response option?

    Thanks for any help,
