Require correct text answer

    Require correct text answer

In Medialab, I would like to require respondents to "recall" the correct word (open-ended text). If they don't get it right, they can't go to the next question and they get another chance to write in the correct text answer. I would like to give them a pre-specified number of chances to get it right. Is this possible?

You could probably set this up using a complex skip as described in the "Advanced Features" section of the user's guide. You'll just need to set the skipto value to the variable name of the current item if they get it wrong. Otherwise, you would set it to "none". It could also be done as a custom item--I think there is an anagram task item posted somewhere (MediaLab Sample Experiments Section?) that tests the content of the response before allowing the subject to continue. Let me know if you run into any trouble with either of these approaches.

Hi, I have tried the first method but I can't seem to find "open-ended text" option. Is it because it is not supported by v2006?

"Open-ended text", I think, was just referring to a standard fill-in-the-blank item.
